TAKE THOSE RUNNING SHOES OFF!

Chasing after a woman or a man is a definitely NO-NO! First of all, a person who truly loves you will not even allow you to chase him or her. True love doesn’t have to be chased. When we chase people, it is more like we are trying to “force” them to love us. That forcing stuff honestly doesn’t work. Sometimes, when we force stuff, it has a tendency to pop loose or break apart. We should pursue God FIRST. When our pursuit is Him, we have no need to chase anyone or anything. We have no need to force anyone or anything. Pursuing God first allows everything else to fall into place. Some who know me are probably reading this and saying, “Who is she to talk about chasing people?” Well, allow me to answer. I have done the chasing before. So I honestly feel that I am highly qualified to speak on it. I know what chasing can do and where it can lead…and that is….to a whole lot of agony and disillusionment. If you are chasing right now, please stop and take a breath. Then, look up. That is where your TRUE LOVE is. As a matter fact, God’s love is all around you. Pursue it and watch how everything else falls into place. Take off your running shoes and hand them over to God! Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33 NLT). Be Blessed. -S.L.M.

A DEVOTIONAL INSPIRED BY THE SUPER BOWL (Truth That Many Refuse to Embrace)

I was talking to someone about the Super Bowl last night.  There were so much ruckus about many being for the Atlanta Falcons taking place among others. There was talk about no one really caring that much for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. To keep it real, both are great teams. It doesn’t matter how some view Tom Brady. The fact is – the New England Patriots won. But many are still criticizing Tom Brady along with the entire team. Now let’s take this to the other side. Isn’t this the way some of us act when others seem to be better off than we are. Isn’t this the way we act because others appear to be “winning” in life but some of us feel like we are “stuck” or “losing” in life? We can be some selfish and jealous human beings at times. Tell the truth and shame the devil! Focus on persevering in your own life and do so with the Lord as Your Guide. Once you do, you will not have any precious time to be criticizing or pouring negative judgment on someone else’s perseverance in their life. If someone seems to have it all, be happy for them and know that you can have just as much or more if you do the same. Victory belongs to the Lord and those who operate with Him on their side will persevere to that victory. Be Blessed.  -S.L.M. “The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the LORD” (Proverbs 21:31).

ALLOW GOD TO SET YOU FREE!

Well, it’s February 1! I have been taking a break from writing on my WordPress blog but I am back with more stamina and wisdom! Many often associate Black History with the word, “slaves.” Why? Because this was a time where African American went through so much. They were labeled as slaves but they were freed. They invented many great things but did not receive much recognition for it all. But thank God – He paved a way for us all to be segregated! But look at many of us now – some of us are slaves to SIN. Let’s be real. Some of us are slaves to MONEY, SEX, JOBS and OTHER PEOPLE. Being a slave to these things take us through so much and most of it is not ever good. We do any and everything to please others but we get no recognition at all. I am not here to judge anyone but I do speak of what I know. Being a slave to all of this means that some of us are chained down or addicted to all of this. When it comes to these things, many of us will do any and everything to get it all. And when you are chained down by these things, nothing GOOD comes from it. We idolize “these things” and don’t focus on God. These things can give us pleasure for a short time but eventually, that pleasure ends. And then….misery or failure kicks in. Allow God to unlock the chains of those things that lead you down a path of misery and failure. Allow Him to free you from those things that weigh you down in life. Stop idolizing things or people who can never give you temporary pleasure. God gives permanent pleasure. Allow Him to set you free from the “bad things” so that you can bless you with the “good things.” “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1 NIV). Be Blessed. – S.L.M.

KNOWING THE TRUTH

Knowing the truth about how God sees you keeps you from believing the devil’s lies about you. Fooling around with listening to the devil can cause you to disregard your value. The devil will come in and whisper negativity in your ear. You won’t function at your best. You will always think that someone or something is out to get you. You won’t think that you are good enough at anything or for anyone. The devil will keep you from feeling, thinking and doing your best in life. God sees the best in you and wants the best for you. The Lord values your worth. In His Word, He tells of the love and greatness he has for you. His Word is Truth. Don’t waste your precious listening to the devil. He is a liar and only wants to destroy you. Spend time listening to the Lord. He is The Truth and wants to build you higher than you have ever been before.  The lies of the devil are designed to keep you in bondage. Knowing who you are in Christ frees you from that bondage. “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32 NLT). Be Blessed.  –S.L.M.

THE GREATEST GIFT

This Christmas, many will be focused how many gifts they get, what they are and what they cost. Many will be focused on spending time with family and friends. Blessed are the ones who know that the Greatest Gift is Jesus. He walks with us every day. He loves us despite all of our flaws. The Greatest Gift can live inside of you if you allow Him to. He brings joy. He comforts. He provides. And His Love is like no other. I am so thankful at the many blessings Jesus pours on me each day. The last past two years have been trying but Jesus has coached me through it. I felt as though I was trapped in the valley but God sent His Son to lead me out. I am still breathing and as long as I am, I know that God is not done with me yet. Situations that I thought could only get worse turned out to get better. Tears turned in the joy. Giving up turned into perseverance. That’s the Power of Jesus. Try Him! He is the Greatest Gift because He is Great. This Christmas, enjoy family, friends and gifts but make sure you embrace the Greatest Gift which is Jesus. Allow Him to live in your heart always. Lord, thank You for Your Son. Be Blessed. – S.L.M.

KNOW WHO YOU ARE

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” – Remember that phrase? Whoever said that really told a lie! Words do hurt. They hurt especially when they are harmful and come from loved ones. Many of us often take these hurtful words and allow them to stick to us allowing the words to label us. Before long, we are walking and operating in what others say about us. We must realize that what others say about us doesn’t define us but it actually defines who they are. Unhappy and bitter people are known to throw insults on others. Know who you are in Christ and hold your head up high. Rise above the harmful words of others. Be confident in Christ. In this world, people will talk about you rather you do good or bad so you must always know who you are to withstand it all. You are a child of The Almighty King! What others say about you really isn’t your problem; it is theirs. Be Blessed. – S.L.M.

WHEN YOU GET UNCOMFORTABLE

Have you ever been in a position where comfort started slipping out of the door step by step? You just don’t have that spark or passion like you use to have. Things and people begin to irritate you like never before. The down days start outweighing the up days. You are simply uncomfortable. In many cases when you get uncomfortable, God may be trying to reposition you to better. Sometimes, you just outgrow things and people. If you find yourself feeling discomfort in a situation, seek God for guidance. Don’t seek Him just on one day but let it be a continuous seeking. Pay attention to what He shows or tells you. So many of us stay in uncomfortable places because it is so “familiar” to us. Familiarity can prevents up from growing and from getting to greater. You may be uncomfortable where you are because it is time to move. God may be trying to elevate you. Seek His guidance and He will lead you to where you need to be in life. Be Blessed. -S.L.M.

JESUS IS A MIRACLE WORKER

We all have problems we go through and some of them seem unbearable as if there is no solution. But while we think there is no solution, Jesus is already making a way. He is already performing miracles in our lives. We just have to possess faith for faith moves mountains. And problems are our mountains. He sometimes gives us strength to climb them; other times He may simply move the mountains. Jesus has the power to overturn anything in our lives. And He possesses the power to work in anybody’s life. You can be the worst of sinners but just one touch from Him can be just enough to turn your life around. None of us are perfect nor will we ever be. But Jesus is perfect…always have been and always be. We should let His Perfection work miracles in our lives. All we have to do is trust and believe. Be Blessed. -S.L.M.

THE GREAT FRIEND YOU HAVE IN JESUS

I am one to counsel heavily on taking heed to the advice of others or listening to their opinions for this was my weakness. But now that I am stronger and wiser, I honestly do feel that a person really needs to pray about who they are confiding in because every listening ear DOES NOT have your best interest at heart. If they did, what you tell them will never go no further than the two of you and the walls that surround you. Unfortunately, we live in a world where many people have mouths with running shoes. And the path these mouths travel have many twists and turns. That is why by the time things get back to you, it all drawn out of proportion. In your face, you may think you see a concern from another but as soon as they are out of sight, so is that concern for you. I used to be amazed at how many were praying for my downfall but as time and wisdom progressed, I am not amazed at all. The ones who pretend to be FOR you can actually be AGAINST you. Don’t get so caught up in your emotions that you become blind to this reality. God can keep you from that blindness. He will help you to discern these people in your life. Our assumptions will not compare to God’s Wisdom. With whatever you are going through, take it to GOD first. And if it is earthly beings that you need in your life to get through, He will send them. When He does, you will know. God will let you know. I can testify that God is The Greatest Friend. He is a Healer and a Comforter like no other. On this Thanksgiving, be thankful for the Great Friend you have in Jesus!

TWO OF THE GREATEST TRUTHS

“YOU CAN’T and YOU WON’T” are two of the biggest lies the devil uses to discourage you in life. In our weakest moments, he comes in and slaps these phrases right in our faces or whisper it in our ears. When we are sightless to God’s promises, we fall victim to the devil’s lie. His objective is to keep us down and blind to who we are in Christ. The devil doesn’t want any of us to know the power that we have as children of God. He wants us to wallow around in our distress until we give up hope in life. He wants us to lose faith. We have to take God by the hand, allow Him to pull us up and stand on His promises. His promises are solid ground and there is no shakiness about it! God promised to supply our needs (Phil 4:19). He promised that His grace is sufficient for us (2 Cor. 12:9). He promised that we will not be overtaken by temptation (1 Cor. 10:13). He promise that we will have victory over death (Acts 2:32). He promised that all things work together for the good of those who love and faithfully serve Him (Rom 8:28). He promised forgiveness (Mark 16:16 & Acts 2:38). God promised eternal life (John 10:27-28). According to Promises of God,  “YOU CAN and YOU WILL!” Be Blessed. -S.L.M.
