Anger is like a very heavy object chained to your ankles pulling you under water in order to drown you. Anger is like an octopus with tentacles of bitterness, insecurity, hatred, despair and so on. There are so many of us who experience nothing but anger and bitterness inside. We try to put on a mask but sometimes, that mask reveals a little bit of who we really are. We can wear a mask in front of others; but we can’t hide from God. He knows who we are. We know who we are. I think that is the thing that gets to us – the fact that WE KNOW HOW ANGRY WE ARE INSIDE . We know that we are consumed with hate, bitterness, jealousy and insecurity; therefore, we try to wear several masks to hide the truth. We tried to hold that inside and we end up getting angry with OURSELVES. We get angry because we are not pleased with ourselves. When we are not pleased with ourselves, we lash out others and claim people or things to be what we are ourselves. When we are not pleased with ourselves, we tend to cling to things and people trying to find some sense of security. When we are not pleased with ourselves, we run into a pattern of misery after misery. Living a life in misery is not productive. It’s time to put on eyeglasses of reality. That nice hairdo or haircut can’t cover up your troubled mind. That nice outfit can cover up that cold heart. Those nice shoes can’t cover up hard-headed feet that won’t walk to more stable ground. Look up! God sees the REAL in all of us even if others can’t. We can’t hide from Him! So we might as well take it ALL off in front of Him. We might as well give Him our troubled mind so He can give us peace. We might as well give Him our cold heart so He can warm it with love. We might as well give Him our shoes of stubbornness and allow Him to give us shoes of wisdom that will allow us to walk to stable ground. Life is too short to be miserable…too short to blame others for things that we are responsible for. Anger is a choice and if you choose it, it will kill all of the good that you actually possess and don’t know it. If you are sitting in the pit of ANGER today and all the unpleasant things that come with it, but have misplaced the key to get out….LOOK UP… God is the key….and all you have to do is call Him. –S.L.M.
James 1:20 (NIV) “..for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.”
