Satan gets really angry when our lives turn over for the better. He has to call all of his “ungodly” friends to help him figure out a way to introduce some type of catastrophe in our lives. Many of us have been delivered from horrendous past experiences. We have been delivered from some of the most disheartening emotions and characters. When we walk away from the experiences, emotions and characters of the past and embrace a better life, we forget that, at any time, the past will try to follow us. The past can come in any shape, fashion or form. It can come in a text message. It can come in the form of a phone call. It can arrive in the mail. It can show up or your doorstep at any given time. It is at this moment we have to remember God’s promises for our lives. We must remember God’s word. One verse I particularly love is Romans 12:2 ESV “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” We must stay focused on God at all times. When the past taps on your shoulder, immediately seek God’s wisdom. Hold on to God’s unchanging hand and don’t let go. That tap on the shoulder from the past will get lighter and lighter until it fades because God’s hand is guiding you on to stay on the path of righteousness. Don’t look back. Remember what happened to Lot’s wife when she looked back at the destruction of Sodom after the angels warned her not to? (Gen 19:26) Lot’s wife turned into a pillar of salt. This is a true example of letting go of the past and never looking back. We all should allow God to continue to guide us on the path of righteousness.
